Battalion change of command

Lt. Col. Gerald Carlson turned over command of the 6/31st to Lt. Col. Cornelius Gearin at Can Giouc.

Carlson received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with V device, tenth award.

Carlson’s parting words:

”It is the dream of every infantry officer to someday command a battalion in combat. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have commanded as fine a fighting unit as the 6th Battalion, 31st. Infantry.
