I arrived at Alpha Company. Sent to Gettysburg the next day.

Lt. Col. Gerald Carlson turned over command of the 6/31st to Lt. Col. Cornelius Gearin at Can Giouc.
 Carlson received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with V device, tenth award.
Carlson’s parting words:

Gettysburg. Explosion of major size set off near Gettysburg deepening river and completing a navigatable section of river.

Alpha at Gettysburg. Suspected attack by large unit of enemy. Everybody digs in… water one foot down.

Alpha. Operating out of Gettysburg.

Eagle Flight for Alpha Company

Eagle Flight.

On Tango Boats for river operation.

C company under Lt. Col Gearin in contact. Killing 50 vc.  No US casualties.

6/31st under operational control of now 3rd brigade of 25th Division.

Finished knocking down A company HQ at Can Giouc for move to Ben Luc
