Both Donald Woodfin and Henry Weitz were killed on the same day and in the same place. Weitz death is listed "by drowning or suffocation." What happened was that the Company was outside of Cu Chi. We were inserted at night by Huey over the now infamous tunnels of Cu Chi although we didn't have a clue at the time. You could see the lights of Cu Chi at night from where we were. We worked in the area for several days. It was really hot and dry. At one point we were in an area of suffocating fumes from some chemical. Lots of bush but no trees.

Donald Woodfin fell into a shaft that went straight down into the ground. The fumes were in there also. Henry Weitz a medic went down after Donald. Both were overcome. Don't know how they were removed without more casualties.

Maybe someone else will remember.
