Forget these guys ever arriving at a peace agreement...I quit thinking about the possibility years ago...as far as I am concerned they can fight each other until hell freezes over or until they decide that enough of their people have died. We are wasting our time attempting to mediate their on going conflict.

Here's an ad posted in the NYTimes today that, I think, summarizes the Israeli position well. Propaganda? As long as Hamas and Hezbollah and other Mideast jihadists refuse to recognize the Israeli nation and seek its destruction, the facts listed in this ad will continue to convince many in the West that Israeli has little choice but to defend its citizens using all of its resources.

Israelis & Gazans can live in peace. But not under Hamas’ rule.

In 2005, Israel unilaterally withdrew all of its citizens and soldiers from the Gaza Strip, hoping to live in peace and prosperity with her Palestinian neighbors.

In 2006, a democratic election in Gaza was followed by a violent takeover by Hamas.

Hamas is internationally recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S., EU, Canada, and others. Its charter explicitly calls for the destruction of Israel and the murder of Jews.

Hamas and other terrorists in Gaza have fired more than 15,000 rockets and mortars at Israel, specifically targeting civilians.

Right now, six million Israelis are living under constant threat of rocket fire. They have as little as 15 seconds to find shelter.

Hamas has consistently violated cease fire arrangements. Israel ceases, Hamas fires.

Hamas forces Gazans to act as human shields, deliberately causing Palestinian civilian deaths to provoke international pressure on Israel.

Israel’s blockade of Gaza was only enacted after thousands of rocket attacks. It is used primarily to prevent materials for building rockets and tunnels from entering into Gaza. All other goods enter Gaza daily on dozens of trucks. Egypt, on the other hand, has hermetically closed the passage between Egypt and Gaza.

Israel provides extensive humanitarian support for civilians in Gaza. Even as Hamas sends thousands of rockets into Israel, Israel sends water, electricity, and other humanitarian assistance into Gaza.

Hamas hijacks UN facilities in Gaza for terrorism. UN forces discovered Hamas rockets hidden in three UN schools.

Gaza is a confining ghetto for a population descended from the original owners of the land they exist on.....unlike most of the Jewish population of Israel that have come to the region from some place else to populate a country created with the help of the British after WWII. Israel controls exit and entry points in Gaza, as well as air space, sea access, and whatever goods get into the walled off territory. Israel even provoked an incident in recent years resulting in killing Americans on ships from Turkey and other nations that were boarded to prevent them from delivering unapproved , by Israel, cargo while still on the high seas. Gaza is only about 25 miles long and 5 wide. The population, less recent deaths, is something like 1.8 million. It is densely populated. Fish in a barrel. They are totally at the mercy of whatever Israel dictates.

Israel entered the "war" with tanks, a standing army, planes, artillery, etc, including a US paid for anti rocket defense system. The Hamas, infused in the population of Gaza have what? No standing army,. No tanks. No planes. No artillery. No aerial defense system at all. Other than an unknown number of Hamas fighters with small arms and a supply of rockets with little major potential for damage, what do they have to conduct war with? Just a lot of civilians, and the civilian's property, as shields.

So Hamas hides behind civilians. And the powerful state of Israel kills the human shields. And the civilians who live will hate Israel and many of them will certainly join the Hamas ranks that otherwise wouldn't have.

Israel is treated in the US like the 51st state. Only the non- state gets a lot more of our tax dollars than any actual one....billlions of them...as much as 9 million of them for every day that goes by. Any evil they do is ignored or excused....unlike a regular state. Our politicians mostly all suck up to the Israel lobby. They value the money and the votes from most US Jews and many Christians that think biblically rather than practically. Just the other day, the latest new House member from my district in response to a question about protecting Israel from UN denunciations said...."Israel is a shinning light on a hill", borrowing a phrase Ronald Reagan applied to America. He makes me ashamed when I think he is supposed to represent me.

In Vietnam the US had the upper hand in weapons and military might....'although not nearly as much as Israel seems to have over Gaza. The VC would mingle with the population. We learned after earlier Search and Destroy efforts devastated whole villages and destroyed farmers crops that maybe hurting the indigenous population to get at the VC probably wasn't a good idea. The end never justifies the means. Not then. Not now.

The UN secretary says the events of the last few weeks "shames the world". And in Britain charities are raising money to assist the people in Gaza to remain alive as they now stand with little medical assistance, food, water, shelter, etc.

Wonder if any charities in the US will attempt to raise money? It would seem, to me, only right....considering. Well...not exactly right. Another word comes to mind.

Oh hell yes, we really need another reason to send money to people that hate us.
But we will probably send money too, and they will hate us even more, we are so stupid.........

Looks like it is back to the war after talks broke down when Israel wouldn't open the Gaza trade borders and the Hamas regime wouldn't give up it's arms. Meanwhile antisemitism has flared in multiple places in Europe with various forms of violence and inciting to violence. This whole thing is starting cause all kinds of ugly ripple effects.
