Remember those Bravo Bears patches?

Postby Niner Alpha » Thu Apr 11, 2013 3:52 pm

Each company had one. Alpha had the Ace and Bravo the bear. I think Bravo might have had different color versions for different platoons.

Well.. if you put in "31st Infantry" into a search on ebay, looks like somebody has made a batch of them and there are several merchants with offerings.....some are described as "original Viet Nam made" but I wouldn't bet on it. Most are only about $9 or $10 and several will ship free.

Whatever.... none of them are me. I am just passing this along in case somebody has any interest.

Now there is another string. I got into it at a juncture where a guy was showing yet another version of patch lettering on a red outlined Bravo Bear patch.

http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ ... nese-made/

In the string there was a story about how patch makers in Saigon made extras to sell to the US collector market and that they didn't all look the same...which seems like BS to me on at least two counts. No internet in those days to sell them , and besides, who in the US would have known about a hundred guys in Bravo Company 6/31st and wanted a copy of their company patch? Most people never..then , nor now, ever heard of the 6/31st and even less the 31st Regiment.

There are...according to the string..at least three colors of Bravo patch borders. Blue, as we see in our album, which we know is real. Red is a popular color...see 31st infantry on ebay and get you one of usually a half dozen possibilities. And now there is a green that the guy who has it says is "authentic". If the colors are for different platoons, which I think someone said one time on this site, what colors go with what platoon?

And lastly.... if any Bravo guys see this, take a look at the string and tell me what you think about how authentic the red and green patches shown are...please.

I'll attach the blue outline real one and one of the red "authentic" ones from the other site.

Added a yellow one that the seller wants over $70 for that seems pretty questionable.

If each company had a patch, what were Charlie and Delta like????
Maybe the Charlie patch had a little VC on it, and maybe Delta had a
little map of the Mekong Delta on it...............ummmm, probably not... 8)

Vern...you don't remember what Delta's was? Don't know if they ever had a patch, but Delta did have a image painted on a board.

Charlie was "Charlie Hunter".

Although I have seen this picture several times, I don't remember this Delta Dragon sign at all.

Here are a couple more of that sign, Jerry.

One by Ricordo Coronado, looks like either a different dragon, or more likely, the same sign leaning against a building.

Floyd Jones has a photo of what looks like the same one Ron has. Must have been at Dong Tam, I'd think.

While I'm thinking about it....and avoiding some work I don't want to do... Alpha had the Ace patch by 70. Alpha also had a sign made with the Ace over the steps at Ben Luc. However, this was new. At Can Giouc there was no Ace of Spades. Maybe it was only a 1970 thing.

But ..while I'm also thinking about it... I think the Delta Dragon must have been left behind somewhere along the line before Ben Luc. Not that I was paying any attention then nor can really remember for sure now.

The Delta sign appears to say "Noli Delta Tangere", I think it does anyway.
Anyone know what that means???

My guess is it's Latin for "I want to go home."........... 8)
