Was in Alpha company 6/31 in Ben Luc. Mostly air assault, hoovercraft, and boat transportation. Was at FSB Gettysburg and the (parrots beak) Cambodia operation.

Thanks for posting David. What was the name of the Lieutenant platoon leader in the middle of the last photo? I can remember some things about him, but not his name.

I'll open a photo album for you in the Alpha section of the collected photos. If you have any more please post away.

I have more pictures, but need to shrink them for posting. I don't recall the platoon leaders name.

Alpha LTs

Postby Delta75 » Fri Sep 27, 2013 7:08 pm

The 6/31st roster contains the following Alpha LTs. Unfortunately the Alpha section of the roster doesn't contain a lot of Ranks and Years.

Hopefully this copy/paste is "viewable".

Last First Rank Years Pltn
Dillard John C. 1LT 69/70 S-3
Gorecki Michael E. 1LT
Kiess Richard 1LT 68
Klingler William W. 1LT 69
Maguire Stephen C 1LT 69
Morgan John W. (Bill) 1LT
Groder Gary J. 2LT
Hall Claytor W 2LT 69/70
Premo William M 2LT 70
Peck Alfred J. LT 69/70 3rd
Lawrence Austin R Jr. LT 70 2nd

See if can sort this out a little more among the ones I know about without confusing myself.

1st Platoon in order first to last

Gorecki...late 69 and maybe very early 70.

Premo.....first part of 70 and became XO from about June to the end.

At least one came after him. There was one guy who lasted only a few weeks before being reassigned. Think this platoon.

2nd Platoon

Moynahan, who has signed our book once, was leader end of 69 and into about the first three and a half months of 70.

Lawrence followed Moynahan and I think was the last 2nd Platoon leader.

3rd Platoon.

Peck was the leader at the end of 69.

Hall followed him early 70.

The guy we don't know the name of came after Hall.

Of the others you name... Morgan was the XO for a while in early to mid 70. He was then assigned someplace else...or went home. Don't know. Macguire, sometime late 69 was re-assigned to another company and ended up wounded and after the war wrote a novel based on his recovering from wounds.

I remember just prior to the Cambodian Parrots Beak operation (May 1970?) Alpha 3rd platoon briefly had an ROTC LT Richard York. Not the same LT in my (JUL 70) picture of five guys.

Thanks, David. I posted them to your album.

By the way, that HQ at Ben Luc, had this dedication in front of it. The base was dedicated to the memory of Captain Keaton of Delta Company.

Lt. Richard York I don't remember at all....unless I had him mixed up with the one I thought was with 1st Platoon.

The guy I remember as a short time Lt in 1970 had this radio guy in the photo in his platoon as an RTO. I think he was the platoon leaders RTO.. But... it was a long time ago. The guy in the photo is Latino...can't remember his name.

By the way.... I think that may be me in the back of that truck.
