31st newsletter

Postby Niner Delta » Tue Mar 11, 2014 7:02 pm

In the Jan. newsletter there is an article about LT Morgan Weed, since we share the same last name, I found it very
interesting. I knew he was KIA in the same company I was in, long after I had gone home, but I never knew much
about him. Always wondered if he was a distant relative, possibly as Weed is not that common, I only met one other
guy with that name the 3 years I was in the Army.

Anyway, my real question is, who wrote that article, I couldn't find the name of the author?????

Vern...my guess is that Karl Lowe probably wrote the article.

Lt. Weed, was one of Karl Lowe's lieutenants at the time of his death in Cambodia. Lowe would remember him and accordingly no doubt wrote about him in the newsletter. Harvey Mize would remember him too, I'd imagine.

Vern,
Yes, the article was written by Karl Lowe. I was Karl's FO in Cambodia, and Morgan was the 3rd platoon leader. He was killed in a fire fight in a village called Tnaot. We were holding our own until a gunship dropped an errant rocket on top of us. The blast killed Morgan and the 2nd platoon sergeant, Cliff Macomber. Morgan was from Alabama and a wonderful guy. Terrible day.

Thanks for the info, guys. Maybe I'll have my sister, who is really into the family history stuff, check and
see if we are related in some distant way.
