I believe that's Doc Bustos walking next to the wreckage. Always liked him !! he'd bring Kool-Aid to get us to take our Malaria pills. One of the good guys.

Good day to go fishing. Little rough in the bay... plenty of fishing boats in the river.

Tonight's chat. A couple photos from the Big red one.

Then one mystery. Seems this photo posted at the 31st site in an album listed as Karl Lowe's has a photo from a different time period. The man with no helmit facing the camera is Captain Grady Smith. He was CO of Delta company from May 3, 1968. Captain Lowe got to Delta Company about January of 70. How it got in an album listed as Captain Lowe's is a mystery to one person who served under Captain Smith.

Check the above link to the photo in question.

Photo mystery solved. It originated with Ray Heltzel. What it's doing in with Karl Lowe's 1970 pictures is still a mystery.

Yep, the photo in question has finally been solved as belonging to Ray Heltzel, but how it became part of Karl Lowe's collection is anyone's guess. The company formation showing is Delta Co. at either behind our platoon barracks in Dong Tam or at Nha Be near the mess hall. Individuals that I can identify in the foreground from R to L are: Sgt. Richard Spekczynski, Larry Essenburg, Roger Mowery and on his left is possibly the company clerk (unknown). The CO, Capt. Grady A. Smith (no head cover) is facing the photographer. The year appears to be around 1968.

From tonight's chat.

From last week....Captain Grady Smith was contacted by Ron Raymond. Smith has since seen the photo with him in it here and has no idea about it one way or the other. Captain, now retired full colonel, Lowe is in the dark on it too as to why it was in the album with his name on it. Maybe if there is a webmaster at the 31st site, or whoever was at the time the album was assembled, and they can be found, he or she would have an idea. But....better to just forget about it. As the phrase went...."it don't mean nothing".... anyway.

Here, attached at the end of this post, is a photo of a triple tail that Keith Carlson caught. That isn't Keith in the photo, but the guy that netted him.

By the way, those of us who will say anything about it, don't like Obama nor Romney. I suggested the Libertarian candidate. He is going to be on the ballet in every state. No chance of winning ...but.. an alternative to a choice between two disgusting candidates who do have a chance.

And if that isn't a good enough reason... among theLibertarian candidate's bragging points:

"Competed in the Bataan Memorial Death March, a 25 mile desert run in combat boots wearing a 35 pound backpack."
