I'm posting it because of the request in the email to pass along the information to those who would be interested but otherwise have not been contacted. You don't have to be a member of the Association to attend.

Members of the 31st Infantry Regiment Association,
I'm sending this note in the blind to the email addresses we have.
Some might already have registered to attend the upcoming reunion but
this is for those who have not yet done so. If you have registered,
please pass this along to your friends and encourage them to join you.
Your association needs your support. Responding to strong requests by
the membership to hold a reunion in DC, we agreed to do so,
forecasting that around 200 would attend since Washington is an
especially attractive destination with much to see and do. We
therefore committed to fill 200 rooms and requested that many banquet
meals at our host hotel. We are falling short of that expectation
(122 have registered as of yesterday) and the cut-off date of 20 July
is near. Yesterday, the hotel agreed to extend our registration
cut-off date, giving us the same rate ($109 per night) for all who
register by 5PM on 25 July. After that date, the reservation rate
will increase to whatever the market is at the time and the
association will become obligated to pay the hotel any difference
between what we forecast and the number registered.
Please join us for the reunion and make a family vacation of it. If
you haven't yet registered, please do so by next Wednesday, July 25th.
Even if you can only stay a night or two, every room night reserved
will help and we'll all enjoy getting together. If you are local,
please come to the banquet and bring guests. We've tried to make this
the cheapest reunion possible, given today's economic difficulties.
Your costs, not counting travel and meals would be:
Hotel room $109 per night plus
tax (their normal rate is $220)
Parking $12 per day for
overnight or $5 for daytime only (their normal rate is $24)
Bus to DC $15 per person
(required for those who registered for the White House tour, otherwise
Reunion banquet $40 per person (all who attend)
Reunion registration fee $30 per person (required
If you choose to fly in rather than drive, the trip from Washington
Reagan Airport to the hotel by metro is only $1.60 per person (7
minutes, clean, and safe). At the King Street Station, call the hotel
shuttle just a few blocks away (703-253-8600).
Our guest speaker is Major General Steve Townsend, who commanded the
4th Battalion at Fort Drum and in Afghanistan in 2001 and is now at
