Ammunition.

Ammunition.

Postby ChrisT » Fri Feb 03, 2006 5:09 am

How much much ammunition were you required to carry for your M16? Also would you have to carry spare ammunition for the M60? Would it just varry depending on the mission or would you have a minimum amount that would always need to carry?

Thanks.

Sorry Chris. Things happen. Don't know why nobody answered.

I suspect every platoon carried 60 ammo according to what their platoon leader or platoon sgt. thought best. It was spread around among the men. The M16 ammo was pretty much a matter of individual choice. In the delta most guys probably carried no more than two bandoliers of M16 magazines. I mostly never carried more than one bandolier of ammo.... but I was arty... and M16 fire wasn't what I was there for anyway.

Anybody remember how many magazines could be put in a bandolier? I'm guessing .. 8? I can't remember.
