THE military all purpose pocket knife

This is a forum for the weapons we knew about. It is also a place for remembering the equipment we carried and how and why we carried what we did.

THE military all purpose pocket knife

Postby Niner Alpha » Fri May 20, 2016 4:15 pm

Well.. it was supposed to be. Camillus was the main producer of the Swiss Army Knife for American troops of all services from sometime after WWII until the end of the 20th Century. At least that's the story. I personally never had one or know of anybody that was issued one or bought one. But... maybe I just missed out. Anybody have one of these when they were in Vietnam?

They came with the year of manufacture on the cutting blade. Note the thumb knob on the screwdriver/bottle opener tool. This assist feature was dropped in the early 1970's.

My Dad had one that looked like that, it stayed in his fishing tackle box, no idea what became of it.
And I don't remember seeing one in Nam.
