I'm proud of going but doubt if America's freedom or security ever had anything to do with it.

Our fathers went to WWII so we went...even though it was tragic and served no purpose at all.

The ones who Jimmy Carter forgave probably have more of a reason to be proud.

Such flag waving statements as the quote really turn my stomach thinking someone who went to Vietnam actually feels like that.

Several of the above are true for me all at the same time.

Saw this in a post somewhere about how a veteran feels about Vietnam

I saw this post online....facebook, actually. It wasn't anybody I know, only somebody that somebody I know knows. It was one of those mature years conclusions that some Vietnam veterans come to. But it isn't my conclusion at all. The statement...we've all seen before in one form or the other.... and this time mostly a direct quote ...was this:

I was trained as an infantry soldier and sent to Vietnam to fight, I have no regrets and am very proud that I was able to fight for and defend the United States of America. Through this entire experience, I hold no grudges and I can only say "Thank you America for allowing me the opportunity to defend your freedom and security".

Seems simple enough...but think about what he is staying for a few moments before answering. Take the poll and give me your ten cents worth of reaction....if you will.
