Robert,
Just got back from free breakfast at Denny's. My friend Peter (a grunt in 4/47th, 9th Division, 68-69) and I sat and listened to a blue water navy guy next to us who chewed on some young guy's ear nonstop about his tour in Vietnam. We both laughed. Denny's got its PR, and this guy got his chance to tell war stories. I guess that sums up the way the day is celebrated now--commercialism and self-proclaimed war heroes.

Thanks, John. Guess I rewrote that above bit of rant one too many times by now. I'll leave it alone.

I felt the way you did when I got back and swore the gummint would never get my sons to fight their fruitless wars. Iraq and Afghanistan certainly didn't change my outlook. I don't think my ambivalence about my own service will ever leave me either.
