We now have a guest book

Postby Niner Alpha » Thu Sep 26, 2002 11:00 pm

Taking a suggestion to heart I have added a guest book that can be a regular roll call for this board. You will see it at the bottom of the page. It is not meant to take the place of the more interactive forums but only an adjunct to them.

Edited by: Niner Alpha at: 9/26/02 9:01:45 pm

ACV Driver

Postby hoverpilot » Sat Jan 25, 2003 7:01 am

Hey Alpha.
I was trying to sign in on the guest book but I am on a friends computer and I can't get the guest book to load.
Figured I would like to say hi to you and everyone else from the 6/31st. I had a great time driving all you guys around the bush.
I was 11B when I got to Dong Tam and was excited to hear that the ACV unit was operating there. When I ran into Sgt. Garcia who was wearing a ACV unit patch I asked him if there was a positions open. He said that a couple of drivers were derosing in about 6 months Needless to say I applied for the job as a Pilot. I did have some helicopter anfd fixed wing time so I thought I had a chance.
When I reported to the C.O. Major Morre. He asked me why I wanted to join the unit. I told him in my best military manner that " I was interesed in seeing the tactical application of a surface effect machine (Air Cushion Vehicle) in a combat enviorment". Whew ! I didn't know I had that in me. Being I had only a couple of days left in the two week orientation when I arived in country at Dong Tam I thought I had no chance in landing the position. When we were assigned our units to report to I was surprized to find out the Major requested me. Wow! I was in Heaven! I always had a distinct likeing for the ACV. I remember reading about them in the Army's yearbook It felt it was a great honor to be assigned there. Besides it sure beat the hell out of humping my ass off. It was one of the highlites of my life. I will never forget it. I really enjoyed you guys to be able to ride instad of humping. Albeit in a windy and somewhat eposed position. We had our speed, the 50's, 60's and mini-gun as a firepower and our lifline to all support like gunships, arty, fast movers was a big plus. We had a FAC (Tamale 32) who regularly called us up to see if we needed anything. I liked that idea!
Ok got to go so hope I will get more shouts from you guys who road "Lead Zeplin" (seeing how I was the 6's pilot I used "lead" as in front and "lead" as in spitin lead ,either way worked) or any of the crafts. 901,902 or 903.
