PATCHES

Talked to my in-law (D Co) and he remembers a pocket patch with a Bearcat on it in mid-69. Does anyone remember this and/or have a picture of it?

Kosar/Vieras & LT Harris

Jack:<br>
Can you contact me at BruceSwander@hotmail.com as I need some details from you and I have a couple of questions. We've verified that Kosar/Vieras was with B/6/31 now, but while looking at documents I have a question about the date (10 May). Also need some info on LT Harris.

At 1537h, C Co was on a sweep when two men tripped a grenade bobby-trap by a small path. Cpl Santana Fernandez died of wounds sustained while enroute to the field hospital after being dusted off.

Anyone have a picture of him or remember who the other WIA was on this day?

Terry - Thx. Sonny had been in-country one month to the day on 5/5/68. The NVA had started attacks on the northern Provinces hoping to pull resources away from their real objective...Saigon. On this day alone, the US lost 181 men and many more died of wounds sustained over the next week. By May 10th...

An hour later, 0845h, A Co sustained 4 WIA from 2# grenade BT. More booby-traps are located throughout the day,...

What's Best?

I don't normally do this....but it's a New Years Resolution. As most of you know, I'm documenting 6/31 in VN. Each day had it's own history, deaths, wounded, and stories of insane fun. Memorials of each of the men killed should be important to remember....but so should the daily drudge and terror yo...

Dave: If you checked with NARA/MD, then they are working off the same database I have, as there is a group of us working with them to identify all 58K names down to Unit level. But, if you checked with NARA/St. Louis, then they would have the Company rosters. I'm still waiting for some of these to c...

Times

Yes....VN time. There was no way that an EM administrator filling out the RTO logs would be able to figure out GMT times to correlate to the US or any other standard back then. 0200 on the 8th would have been still the 7th in the US, and to most soldiers in the field it still would have been the 'ni...

Notification

If you listen to the movie carefully, there was a reference that the Army was 'unprepared' at the time for the number of notifications. I, too, was surprised that telegrams were being sent by a taxi, esp to families of Officers and on-base...and have every reason to believe that this happened histor...

KIA Dates/Times

All dates recorded are at VN dates. Each new day started at midnight. This causes some confusion when guys remember a KIA/WIA early in the morning...which is technically the next day. Men who died of their wounds make it more difficult. The date is when they died, not when the wounds were sustained....

Two new KIA names have come up this week that may have been coded wrong: Raymond Beam and Ferrell Messer, KIA on 18 Nov 69. Does anyone remember either of these two soldiers so that we can verify that they were with 6/31? Daily logs have not been pulled yet for this date to corroborate.

Lists

The problem with the WIA lists that I've located is that they don't give the date that the soldier was wounded. The other problem is that the FH records usually don't give the Unit/Company that they treated. 6/31 logs only state comments like "B Company requests dustoff for 2 WIA from AW fire a...

RE: WIA's

Most of the Daily Log Reports for 6/31 don't show names when someone was WIA. It's an ongoing attempt to document the history of the Unit to match up an incident with a 'real person'. Most of the KIA's are now done, and I'm trying to match WIA's to a specific date and who the dustoff unit was.
