I used Photobucket to post pictures, just followed the directions that Niner Alpha has posted under the "Site Announcements". He takes you step by step and it turns out to be a lot easier than I thought. And all this time I thought that him and Chuck were so very clever, turns out that eve...

Arty pics in header

Nice to see some of my old pics in the header. But did you know that in one of the other pics in this forum, "Dong Tam 105s - etc.", there is a 2 for 1 arty picure. The 2nd pic down has the 105mm, and in the background (in front of the far building) is an 8" self-propelled like in one...

Re: James D. Quisenberry

Cpt. Quisenberry was CO of A Co. as early as Aug. 7th 1968, the date of Silver Star award. The second article about the mortar platoon has his name spelled differently, but it's obviously the same man. I am sure that Cpt Quisenberry was the CO of D Co. when I got there in early 1969, and was later r...

What were they thinking?

Why did the Army give us M-16's with a 3-prong flash supressor when they knew that we would use them to break the wires on cases of c-rations. I think those bent prongs were the idea behind smart bullets that shoot around corners. Am I the only one that comes around here anymore?? Pust to test. Rele...

Re: I refuse

I have found many good reasons to go to these clubs and here are a few.<br> <br> 1. VFW are my initials, and I always like to see them up in neon.<br> 2. The drinks are really good, and cheap too.<br> 3. They always hire barmaids that remind them of their granddaughters. (young and cute)<br> 4. When...

Re: Malaria tablets

Took them sometimes, but they seemed to encourage a quick trip to the latrine. When I got back home, the Red Cross would not take my blood for a couple of years, after they found out I had taken malaria tablets. Never told me why not.

Cpt. Quesenberry

Does anyone remember the date that Cpt. Quesenberry left Delta. I believe 1Lt Tom Slining took over from him as the next Delta CO.
It had to be in early 1969, but am trying to pin it down.

Sly polar bear

Chuck, If you're buying, I'm drinking. Just pick a time, off work 2 more weeks with knee surgery. Revised slide show looks great. Curious where you got the graphic for the 4th slide, the 31st Inf Reg Assoc dedication page. The polar bear is facing the wrong way, or are all the others wrong! If this ...

Re: Automated Slide Show of 31st Regiment History (brief)

Way to go , Chuck. A great presentation, very interesting. This is the type of thing that, in my opinion, will encourage people to come back more often and maybe post more often. Although, being that I'm an "Evelyn Wood" dropout, I watched it twice to read everything. PS - It also helps to...

Re: Funeral Detail

I am not defending the entire VFW organization, we all have had different experiences with it, and the American Legion, too. I will speak well of the three posts that I have belonged to, in WA, CA, and AZ. At all three posts, I was welcomed warmly, and encouraged to participate at all levels. Never ...

Re: Information you can find on the internet

This is true, however, you always could do this, only it was in two parts. If your name and address are listed in any phone directory, there are many online white and yellow pages. And many reverse directories, just punch in number and it gives your address. Then take the address to Yahoo Maps, Maps...

Chuck,
To reset the system, try to twitch the glitcher on the left side of the frammisher, it's on the bottom of the valvalizing modulator panel. That always works for me.

Looking forward to your reports.

T.S.N. Air Base

When the 9th pulled out in '69, I went back to my arty unit to go to Hawaii. Before we left, we drove our trucks, towing 105mm howitzers to Saigon to be shipped back. We dropped the guns off at Tan Son Nhut to be flown back and the next morning dropped the trucks off at a place on the waterfront cal...

What about the SP Packs (That's what I remember calling them) A box sent sometimes to the unit that contained cartons of cigarettes, toilet articles, and shaving gear. Bruce, Am always amazed when you come up with this detailed information, keep up the good work. Vinh Kim incident in 1969

Does anyone remember an RPG (or mortar) hitting the tin roof of one of the buildings at Vinh Kim and wounding several and killing at least one, a medic maybe? And then landing a dustoff inside the compound to evac them? All of this is hazy, is any of it correct of have I had too many Bud lites over ...

Chuck, You are right about the alphabet, I can still rattle them off very fast. The small picture of the grunt at the bottom of your alphabet posting is great. The first time I saw that picture (much larger) was on the cover of a copy of Octofoil, now seen on 9th Div web site. It caught me off guard...

Re: NATO Phonetic Alphabet - Numbers

There were code books that we had to keep with us that had everyones radio call signs. Seems all the call signs had a 2 word prefix that were changed every month and were supposed to be hard for the VC to pronounce. One month the prefix was "Yukon Rams", and all month it was "Youcan R...

Who went to Hawaii, summer '69?

Can somebody answer this for me? <br> What units, if any, of the 6/31st went to Hawaii in the summer pullout of 1969?<br> I was artillery, attached to D Co. 6/31st, and for the pullout, went back to my original arty unit, C Btry 1/11th, and shipped to Hawaii (spent a fun filled year there). Re: Tiger Scout Mon

Spent a few days aboard the USS Benewah APB-35 in the Mekong River just before we were sent to Hawaii as a unit in summer of '69. I was sent back to my Artillery unit, C Btry 1/11th for the pullout and never saw the 6/31st again.
