6/31st brother honored in Pittsburgh

By Marylynne Pitz / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Before Dennis Walker became a mine inspector and a father of two daughters, he soldiered with the U.S. Army for about two years in Vietnam. "I was a point man, the guy who walks first," the Fayette County man said in a telephone interview. Now 63...

Re: Jerry White's 2013 Viet Nam Trip

Thanks Jerry,

Not the answer I was hoping for but had always feared that.

Lets just hope they all got out of the country.

Hope to see you and Barbara in Dayton!

Re: Compass

Niner saw your posting on compasses.

Here is my compass that I used to use when deer hunting.

It was my grandfathers from WWI. It works great I dont know if it has any real value other than a family keepsake.

Jerry's Adventures

Jerry's Adventures I have been following the adventures of Jerry in Vietnam and really enjoying them. The countryside is beautiful but I am sure the heat and humidity would get the best of us in today's world. I wonder what the feeling is like that Jerry is experiencing, particularly seeing these si...

I have recently contacted Mike Burgess and Joe Parker, both had interest in the reunion. I gave them the sites that support the 6/31.

Guinness

The crazy thing is it don't taste the same here (except in the can with the widget inside, tastes same as in can over there). The locals say if it ain't from St James Gate, it ain't Guinness!

The Army took my one dogtag I had left and all my clothing and boots at Oakland. I hid my jungle hat and a P38 on a grenade ring, this is all I could smuggled out!

I was in VN. I remember getting a call while we were on ambush. Be advised, United States Military Personnel have landed on the moon. A week or so later we got the Stars and Stripes and I was reading it. Chu our tiger scout asked what you reading. I told him G.I. land on Moon! He said you all BS!! H...

I agree with you Niner.

The country has it's priorities in reverse.

The problem is not many can see the forest thru the trees and the trees are getting taller!

TraCu

I do remember a Battleship Gray Huey landing at Gettysburg and Capt Lavassie called me to the CP and told me to find the M-60 barrels swiped from the bunkers at Tra Cu and have them in the CP in Ti TI time. I complied.

The amazing factor at Tra Cu was flush toilets in the middle of nowhere. Old Special forces camp with home comforts. That is the place that the merc's worked out of.

I had one of those Instamatic cameras also. I took many pictures with it. It went to the bottom of the river in my water incident with all my gear. I never got another camera I don't know if the PX didn't have them or whatever. I do remember that film was always tough to come by so I was using a pla...

So where is this?

Good question Niner. Truthfully I was not aware that 6/31 was a part 1st recondo. I was with 1st recondo with 2/39th and was transfered to 6/31. I had thought 6/31 was aways the Red Devils. Maybe an outpost like our Vin Kim. I think that the ARVNs were right next to us there. Jerry White may know th...
