Landing at Saigon

Basically, it's all true. We were supposed to go to Chu Lai but mid flight we were moved to the 9th Inf Div. I went on a C-141 with the jeeps and some other equipment with 7 other guys. One was Larry Hathaway from C company's wpns platoon. I was Capt. Bill Owen's RTO and driver. Noisy? U bet. C-141'...

2004 Reunion

Can we get the upcoming reunion on top of the discussion board? It seems more important than last year's. The reunion will be at the birthplace (Seattle/Tacoma) of the 6thBn/31st Inf. Aug 27-Aug30, 2004.

The tape

I have the tape of the incident from Aug 68. It isn't really the firefight. It's the aftermath of the firefight. It was done by a guy in 3re plat C/6/31. It's not graphic at all. Just us waiting to be airlifted back to Nha Be on Aug 9. Those were 2 really bad days. We lost 12 KIA and had at least 30...

Correction needed

This is a picture of Co C being inserted on or about May 7, 1968. I remember it. This was NOT the first contact for Co C. On Apr 24th we had a contact near Bearcat in which 2 guys died right away from a command detonated claymore. Their names were Don Hanna and Bill Rauber. Rauber was the medic for ...

I refuse

I refuse to go to the VFW or the American Legion. Those places are filled with old people. I'm still just 21 (55) in my mind. Both are usually good folks. They do help with filing claims with the VA and can be useful.

Socks

Most of us in 68-69 wore socks. We hadn't heard about not going without socks. But it sounds very reasonable to me. What about the blisters when going on long marches? We did a lot of that back then.
The one thing we all did back then, was go without underwear. Jock-rot got so bad we had to do i...

Greg Russell

35 years ago today, my friend, Greg Russell passed away in battle. Not a day goes by that I don't think of him. He was awarded the DSC for action on May 11, 1968, and died that day. We'll never forget you, Greg.

Re: keep sakes

Still have to shirts and one pair of size 29 pants. LOL My boonie hat still has the "Vietnam is a bummer" with a peace sign in it that Lt Col Logan, the second Bn commander said we couldn't wear. That was in May of 68. It was and still is a bummer experience. But the people were fantastic....

Good to see another polar bear from Co C check in, Ray. You may not have known about it, but we had a nice reunion in Pittsburgh last weekend. The 31st Inf Rgt Assn has a reunion every year. Vets from 3 wars come and meet and get reacquanted. We had 10 guys from the original Company that shipped ove...
