David Morris - 3rd platoon, Delta Company, 1968-69

Sadly I report the passing of another Brother. "Doc" Sheridan has informed me of the passing of David Morris, March 29, 2017. David carried the M-60 machine-gun in 3rd platoon, Delta Company, 6/31st, 9th Infantry Division, Vietnam 1968-69. I was his Platoon Sergeant in 1969. No one was bet...

Re: 1st time VA user - Need help.

Randy.......as you probably already know...Lt Richard Dorn (2nd platoon/1969) visited us for a week in March. He stayed in a nice hotel in My Tho (($50 a night) and my sons and I picked him up each morning on my son's motorcycles to take him around the old AO. You would always be welcome.

3rd party screening

Randy after all these years, after constant prodding by a friend, I finally met with a Vietnam Veteran advocate and he filed a claims form for me. While I was in Vietnam visiting my wife's family my neighbor who was screening my mail for me sent me a scanned copy of several appointments that had bee...

Re: Memorial Day

I agree with you Niner......sadly 59,000 died for nothing. When you read the Pentagon Papers you see that Johnson and McNamara knew as early as 1965 that we could not win the war, but they were looking for an "honorable peace". By 1965 we had lost ~2,300 men....therefore we lost another ~5...

Re: Trapping Hogs

He weighed right at 200 lbs...I had estimated that he would have weighed much more (at least 250)...these Texas Hill Country hogs are long and lean. The tales of all those 300 lbs hogs are mostly just that...."tales". Most were estimates and were never weighed. Yes...there are a few 300 lb...

Re: Viet Cong Reunion

As we know, the War experiences of a Combat Soldier and a REMP (or REMF as they were known to those in combat :D ) were two worlds apart; however, I never expected the very large difference, as it relates to the War, that I have discovered over the last ~50 years, between the Vietnamese people who l...

Re: Viet Cong Reunion

I actually met such a "turn-coat" Tiger Scout at this last reunion. My Wife told me that after we had left Vinh Kim, using his position of having been a Tiger Scout, he gained access to one of the small ARVN outposts near Vinh Kim. Later that night he opened the gate to the VC and they kil...

Re: Viet Cong Reunion

I would assume that about the only former Tiger Scouts who survived the "post-war" were those lucky enough to have escaped the country or those who were actually still Viet Cong who had served "under-cover" for the Viet Cong.

Re: Viet Cong Reunion

As many of us thought during the War.....the Vietnamese people in the countryside didn't care who won the War...they just wanted it to be over so that they could go on with their lives and so that their family members would stop dying. They knew that the South Vietnamese government had never done an...

Re: Viet Cong Reunion

Actually my children and my wife's younger sister were concerned that I would even attend the reunion....actually a celebration of the April 30, 1975 end-of-the war "victory". My wife and I were not concerned, as we had already attended one a few years ago. Needless to say the speaker reco...

Viet Cong Reunion

Today we went to a a reunion with my wife's former Viet Cong friends. I was, of course, the only former American soldier in attendance. LOL As usual, I was warmly welcomed...everyone wanted to have a drink with me. They pour their rice vodka (ba si day) into a shot glass and bend their finger in 1/2...

Hello My Delta Brothers Chuck served with 3rd platoon in 68/69. Chuck and his wife Carolyn attended the 2015 6/31st reunion in Branson, MO as well as many of the 31st Regiment Association reunions. The 2005 Ft Benning, GA was the first large gathering of 6/31st men, and Chuck and Carolyn were there ...

Re: 31st Regiment newsletter....

The 31st Regiment Association website should be considered a total embarrassment to the organization. It is without a doubt the worse military organization website on the internet. They should consider removing it completely until it is at least functional.

Re: 31st Regiment newsletter....

My neighbor who is picking up my mail says that I just received a packet from Chuck...I assume the newsletter....strange since I too resigned from the Association some time ago. It does appear that they are actually doing some "recruiting", at least via the newsletter, in an attempt to get...

Vietnam - 2018

Hello All.....my wife and I arrived in Vietnam last week for our yearly visit with her family in Vinh Kim. The weather is great! The last couple of months in Texas have been too darn cold for this old man. We will be here for 4 months....thankfully it will be warm when we return.

Take Care All

Re: 1st time VA user - Need help.

Niner, we don't leave for Vietnam until Jan17; however, we are now preparing...buying all our required medications for 4 months, packing clothes, deciding what else to carry, carrying all my firearms to my neighbor for safe keeping in his huge safe, etc. Will drain the water lines and blow them out ...
